Morris Dancing in Surrey & NE Hants since 1972
Pilgrim Twelfth Night celebrations take place on January 6th each year around Guildford town, full details below.
Twelfth Night rounds off the festive season with a traditional Wassail, wishing good health and fortune for the year ahead.
We tour the town’s hostelries singing traditional carols, performing the Guildford Mummers Play and generously passing round the wassail bowl. The King or Queen of Misrule is chosen at the start of proceedings at the Star Inn.
The fun takes place on January 6th each year. At each pub, chalked cross marks are made on the beams called apotropaic marks, the marks are made to bring good luck and to prevent the entrance of evil spirits.
The Mummers Play will be performed at the following times and locations:
7:15 P.M. – The Star Inn
8:00 P.M. – The Keep
8:30 P.M. – The Angel Hotel
9:30 P.M. – The Three Pigeons
10:15 P.M. – The Royal Oak
Come and join the fun; we look forward to seeing you.
